Hesham Hassaballa, MD, FCCP, FAASM is a practicing Intensivist with 19+ years of clinical practice. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Hassaballa is a Regional Medical Director for Sound Physicians’ Critical Care practice in the Midwest, where he leads and oversees clinical operations in multiple onsite and Tele-ICU programs. He is Medical Director of both Critical Care and Respiratory Therapy at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. At Rush-Copley, Dr. Hassaballa is a member of the Medical Staff Leadership.
Dr. Hassaballa was featured by the NY Times during the Covid-19 pandemic, and in 2022 Medika Life listed Dr. Hassaballa among the 50 Most Influential Voices in Healthcare. He is a prolific writer, publishing numerous scientific articles and has also published two books: "How Not To Kill Someone In The ICU" and "Code Blue," a work of fiction.
In addition, Dr. Hassaballa has won a number of awards, most recently the Rush Copley Medical Staff Promise and Humanitarian Awards, the Sound Core Value Award for Teamwork and the Leadership Award at Rush Copley Medical Center. His experience at multiple levels within health care, combined with active clinical practice and passion, provides an acute understanding of today’s healthcare challenges.
When not working, Dr. Hassaballa serves as Treasurer of the Bayan Hassaballa Foundation, set up by he and his wife to honor the memory of their daughter, Bayan, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009.
